Learn below on what happens on this tour:
Morning Pickup and Departure from Kathmandu
Your hotel pickup is around 5:30 AM. We drive you to the domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International Airport in around 25 to 30 minutes. At check-in, staff verify your passport and record body weight before issuing your boarding pass.
The helicopter departs at approximately 6:00 AM. Early morning departure is standard for Everest helicopter tours because flying conditions over the Himalayas are most stable before midday.
Refuelling Stop at Lukla
The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla takes 30 to 40 minutes. You cross forested ridges and river valleys as the landscape gradually opens into the Khumbu region!
The helicopter lands at Lukla (2,860 m) to refuel. Lukla is the gateway town that EBC trekkers fly to before starting their journey on foot. During refuelling, you get your first close look at Sherpa settlements and the lower Everest landscape before continuing higher.
Overflying Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar
After refuelling, the helicopter climbs into the upper Khumbu Valley. Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, and Phortse pass below. Everest (8,848 m) comes into view ahead, with Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam visible around it. The helicopter flies over Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and turns toward Kala Patthar (5,644 m), the highest point EBC trekkers reach on foot. From here, the full scale of the Khumbu Glacier is visible below!
Note: When flying with more than 3 passengers or above 250 kg combined weight, the helicopter does shuttle runs from Pheriche for the EBC overflight section.
Landing at Hotel Everest View for Breakfast or Lunch
From Kala Patthar, the helicopter descends to Syangboche (3,880 m) and lands at Hotel Everest View. This hotel holds the Guinness World Record as the highest placed hotel in the world, a record listed in 2004!
From the terrace and dining room, Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Thamserku are directly in front of you. Depending on your tour option and departure timing, the stop is for breakfast or lunch. You have around 45 to 60 minutes here.
Return Flight to Kathmandu
After Hotel Everest View, the helicopter returns to Lukla for a second refuel and continues to Kathmandu. You follow the same scenic routein reverse, looking down on Namche Bazaar and the Khumbu valleys.
The helicopter lands back in Kathmandu. Our team drives you back to your Kathmandu hotel. Most guests are back well before noon, with the rest of the day completely free!
Two Tour Options from Himalayan Ecstasy Nepal
Option 1: Kathmandu to Kathmandu (KTM-KTM)
This is the full Everest Heli Tour. You depart from and return to Kathmandu entirely by helicopter. The route is Kathmandu, Lukla (refuel), EBC and Kala Patthar overflight, Hotel Everest View for breakfast, Lukla (refuel), and back to Kathmandu.
Total flight time is approximately 3 to 4 hours. Helicopter cost is calculated per hour of charter flight time. Reach us directly on WhatsApp to confirm current per-hour rates and shared joining prices for your dates.
Option 2: Lukla-Based Tour (Lukla to Lukla)
In this option, you first fly commercially from Kathmandu to Lukla. This works well if you are already in the Everest region for trekking.
From Lukla, the helicopter covers only the upper section: EBC overflight, Kala Patthar, Hotel Everest View for breakfast or lunch, and return to Lukla. Total helicopter flight time is shorter. So, the per-hour charter cost is lower than the KTM-KTM option.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour FAQs
The full KTM-to-KTM tour takes approximately 4 to 5 hours including both Lukla refuelling stops and the hotel stop at Syangboche. Most guests return to Kathmandu before noon.
Each helicopter accommodates up to 4 passengers with a combined weight limit of approximately 250 kg. Groups exceeding this are split for the EBC overflight and shuttled from Pheriche in turns.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) give the most stable flying conditions and clearest mountain visibility. All tours depart in the early morning to take advantage of calm pre-noon weather over the Himalayas.
