The following are the list of services, also defined in the itinerary, included in the package cost for the Everest Base Camp Trek:
Flights to & from Lukla: Flights to and from Lukla are moved to Ramechhap (140 km from Kathmandu, a 5-hour drive) until the end of the trekking season, affecting all Everest region trekkers. If flights cancel due to weather but helicopters can fly, we can arrange one from there.

The Gokyo Ri, Chola Pass & EBC Trek offers a rewarding experience in all seasons, though spring and autumn consistently see the highest number of visitors. While winter and summer also attract adventurers, these two prime seasons offer optimal conditions.
On your 17-day Gokyo Ri, Chola Pass & EBC, three nourishing meals will be provided daily during the trek (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as part of your package. You'll need adequate carbohydrates and proteins to fuel your high-altitude hikes towards the world's tallest peak. Both teahouses and lodges along the route offer dining options.
While you shouldn't expect a wide selection of international Western cuisine in this mountainous environment, you will undoubtedly enjoy authentic Nepali food. We strongly advise against consuming meat dishes during your journey. As it is illegal to butcher animals in the Khumbu region, any meat available is transported by yak or porter from lower altitudes, raising concerns about its freshness and cleanliness. The vegetarian meals provided at the teahouses, however, are consistently delectable and packed with nutrition, offering ample energy to power your daily treks. You'll find a fresh breakfast and lunch menu each day.
Common dishes available include French fries, boiled eggs, toast, momo (dumplings), pancakes, omelets, spaghetti, and noodles. Be sure to try the traditional Nepali fare, which typically features dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), vegetable curry, pickles, and other delightful side dishes. For beverages, hot chocolate, hot lemon, coffee, tea, and cold drinks are readily available along the route.
Throughout your EBC Trek, your accommodations will primarily be teahouses. Teahouse lodging in Nepal is modest, clean, and specifically designed to welcome trekkers. The majority of rooms are basic, typically featuring low-rise beds with foam mattress pads, wood-paneled or plastered walls, and usually one window.
Some teahouses provide in-room heaters, while most have a central communal burner lit in the evenings, where trekkers gather. Hot showers are sometimes available for a fee, though cold showers are more common at higher altitudes. Electrical charging facilities are generally available, but often incur an additional charge, especially for phones and power banks.
The Gokyo Ri, Chola Pass & Everest Base Camp Trek is a formidable challenge, particularly influenced by varying climates and the ever-present risk of altitude sickness. For experienced hikers accustomed to long journeys with a backpack, the path may feel more manageable. However, if you're not accustomed to regular exercise or lack experience in hill walking, significant physical preparation will be necessary.
The trek takes you above the 5,000-meter (16,400 feet) mark, making acclimatization and a steady pace crucial. While you don't need prior mountaineering knowledge or technical climbing skills – as the trek consists solely of physical walking – navigating daily ascents and descents can be demanding for newcomers. To successfully complete this 17-day Himalayan adventure, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment are paramount.
While Nepal is generally a safe destination, unexpected events can occur, making travel insurance an absolute necessity for your Gokyo Ri, Chola Pass & Everest Base Camp trek. Extreme weather changes, along with risks such as altitude sickness, accidents, and flight cancellations (especially to/from Lukla), are inherent to this high-altitude adventure. Minor incidents like a stumble, muscle strain, or even basic illness can become serious and incredibly expensive to treat at high altitudes. A helicopter rescue, if needed, can incur costs that far exceed the trek package price.
Beyond medical emergencies, incidents such as petty theft, luggage damage, or airline delays are also possibilities. Therefore, we highly recommend comprehensive EBC Trek travel insurance to safeguard your health, belongings, and financial well-being against any unforeseen circumstances.
Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), occurs when your body doesn't adequately acclimatize to high altitudes. On this trek, you'll start your adventure in Kathmandu (1,300 m) and fly directly to Lukla (2,800 m), then gradually ascend to higher elevations, with a significant adjustment period around 3,400 m (Namche Bazaar). This makes trekkers susceptible to AMS if not managed properly. To minimize the risk of altitude sickness, follow this expert advice:

Your Himalayan adventure truly begins with an exhilarating early morning flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region. This scenic flight offers breathtaking aerial views of the lush Nepali landscapes and the distant Himalayan peaks, serving as a dramatic introduction to the world's highest mountains. Upon landing at the adventurous Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you'll meet your porters and the rest of your trekking crew.
From Lukla, your trek officially commences with a gentle descent towards Phakding. The trail is well-defined, winding through charming Sherpa villages adorned with prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens. You'll enjoy your first views of the majestic Kongde Ri and the roaring Dudh Koshi River below. The path includes several suspension bridges, offering exciting crossings over the river and landslides, like the one at Ghat. You'll also encounter huge boulders painted with Tibetan scriptures, adding to the spiritual ambiance before arriving at Phakding, your first overnight stop.
Today's trek takes you away from Phakding and deeper into the Sagarmatha National Park, leading you towards the vibrant Sherpa capital. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing thrilling suspension bridges that sway high above the turquoise waters. You’ll pass through small villages like Monjo, where you'll register at the Sagarmatha National Park check post, before continuing to Jorsalle for lunch.
The final ascent to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) is a sustained climb, but the reward is immense as you reach this bustling amphitheater of houses, shops, and lodges. Namche serves as the primary trading hub of the Khumbu region, offering your first grand views of Everest and Lhotse on clear days.
Today is a crucial acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, essential for your body to adapt to the increasing altitude. You'll have the flexibility to explore the bustling village, visit the local museum to learn about Sherpa culture and mountaineering history, or take an invigorating hike to higher viewpoints.
A popular option is a trek to Khumjung Village (3,780 m), a traditional Sherpa settlement nestled in a beautiful valley, where you can visit its monastery or a local school. For even more expansive views, an excursion to the Everest View Hotel (3,875 m) offers stunning panoramas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. This 'climb high, sleep low' strategy is vital for successful high-altitude trekking.
Today's trek takes you away from the main Everest Base Camp trail, as you begin your journey towards the pristine Gokyo Lakes. Departing from Namche, the trail initially forks, and you will take the western, higher path that hugs the mountainside. The tenacious climb to Mong La (3,990 m) is incredibly rewarding, offering distant views of Ama Dablam to the east. The trail then descends sharply down the valley through a series of steep switchbacks and a beautiful rhododendron and pine forest, leading you to the hamlet of Phortse Thenga.
After lunch, you will ascend through forests of red birch, fir, and dwarf rhododendron, passing yak pastures and cascading waterfalls. Just before reaching Dole, you'll notice a dramatic change in landscape and vegetation. Above 4,000m, windswept valleys favor only a few species of ground-hugging rhododendrons and alpine flowers like edelweiss, gentians, anemones, and Stellera, marking your entry into a more austere alpine zone.
Your trek continues to Machhermo (4,470 m), a high-altitude settlement nestled in a windswept valley on the banks of the Machhermo River, a drainage of the vast Ngozumpa Glacier. This segment takes you higher, with sustained climbs that will test your endurance. You'll keep high above the Dudh Koshi river, navigating in and out of side valleys, passing along the settlements of Lhabarma and Luza. The trail can be quite steep at times but the breathtaking views of Cholatse and Taboche will keep you company.
Upon reaching Machhermo, you'll have lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, you'll embark on a crucial acclimatization hike up the Kyajo Ri ridge (4,710 m), applying the 'climb high, sleep low' principle. In the evening, you'll visit the village's first-aid post for a brief understanding of mountain sickness, ensuring your safety and awareness for the higher altitudes ahead.
Today's trek leads you to the magnificent Gokyo Lakes (4,790 m), a true gem of the Everest region. Leaving Machhermo, you will climb a ridge offering clear views of the entire Kangtega valley, and beyond, a distant glimpse towards the border with Tibet behind Cho Oyu (8,201 m).
After a well-deserved lunch and rest at the village of Pangka, you'll cross the river to reach the front of the Ngozumpa Glacier's moraine, which feeds these famous lakes. A final push brings you into the Gokyo valley, adorned with several pristine lakes. Today, you will pass the first three: Longpong (4,650 m), Tauzhun (4,710 m), and Dudh Pokhari (4,750 m), where you will stay the night in a lodge on its edge.
Since the Gokyo Ri offers one of the best sunrise views in all of Khumbu, you'll start the day before dawn.
To reach the summit will take approximately three hours, and somewhere along the way, you will notice how the Himalayas' white peaks are colored by the dawn. Everest, Makalu, Nuptse with Lhotse, Cholatse with Taboche, and the Ngozumpa glacier are a few Himalayan giants that rise over the surrounding.
After spending some time at the top, you'll descend to your lodge for breakfast and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Today promises a uniquely challenging and unforgettable segment of your Everest Three Passes adventure as you journey from the serene lakesides of Gokyo to the rugged outpost of Dragnag (4,700 m). This short but significant trek is primarily defined by your crossing of the colossal Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas.
Departing from Gokyo village, your path will soon lead you onto the vast, undulating expanse of the glacier itself. This is not a flat, smooth walk; instead, you'll navigate a fascinating, ever-changing landscape of rocky moraines, glacial debris, and sometimes patches of exposed ice. It's a testament to the raw power of nature, requiring careful foot placement as you traverse its complex terrain. As you make your way across, you'll gain a profound appreciation for the sheer scale of this icy giant, with the surrounding peaks towering dramatically on all sides.
After successfully crossing the glacier, the trail leads you to Dragnag, a small, remote settlement nestled at the foot of the mountains. This isolated camp serves as your vital overnight stop, strategically positioned for your challenging ascent over the Cho La Pass tomorrow.
Today is another monumental day on your Everest Three Passes adventure as you prepare to conquer the formidable Cho La Pass (5,330 m). This challenging crossing is often considered the most strenuous of the three, demanding your full strength and determination.
You'll begin your day with an early start from the remote settlement of Dragnag, heading directly towards the pass. The ascent to Cho La is steep and arduous, navigating over rocky moraines and through rocky scree slopes. Depending on conditions, you may encounter patches of ice or snow, requiring careful footing. Every step upward is a testament to your resilience as you push towards the pass's summit.
Upon reaching the top of Cho La Pass, a profound sense of accomplishment will wash over you. The views are simply breathtaking, offering a new perspective of the Everest region's giants. You'll witness majestic peaks like Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Lobuche East, and even a glimpse of Everest, all set against a vast, high-altitude panorama.
The descent from Cho La to Dzongla (4,834 m) is equally challenging. It's often steep and rocky, requiring careful negotiation as you make your way down. As you lose altitude, the terrain gradually eases, and the stunning views of the surrounding valleys open up, guiding your way. You'll finally arrive at Dzongla, a small, basic settlement nestled amidst impressive peaks. This vital overnight stop provides a much-needed rest after a demanding day, positioning you perfectly to reconnect with the main Everest Base Camp trail tomorrow.
Today is an immensely significant day on your Everest Three Passes adventure, culminating in your arrival at Everest Base Camp! Departing from Dzongla, your trek begins by navigating a relatively straightforward path, offering impressive views of Cholatse and Lobuche peaks as you traverse high-altitude valleys.
You'll soon converge with the main Everest Base Camp trail near Lobuche, joining fellow trekkers on the final stretch to Gorakshep. From Lobuche, the path leads you across vast moraine fields, a testament to the immense power of the Khumbu Glacier. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and rugged, emphasizing your ascent into the realm of the highest peaks. You'll steadily climb towards Gorakshep (5,140 m), the last inhabited settlement before EBC, a stark but essential outpost.
After a well-deserved lunch and a short rest at Gorakshep, your highly anticipated afternoon excursion to Everest Base Camp (EBC) (5,364 m) begins! The trail to EBC winds over the rocky moraine of the Khumbu Glacier itself. While not a steep climb, the altitude makes every step purposeful. As you navigate the uneven terrain, you'll be constantly surrounded by towering giants like Nuptse, Pumori, and the infamous Khumbu Icefall, its séracs gleaming in the distance.
Reaching Everest Base Camp is an iconic moment – a tangible symbol of your journey to the foot of the world's highest mountain. Here, surrounded by prayer flags and, during climbing season, the vibrant tents of international expeditions, you'll feel an unparalleled sense of accomplishment. Though Everest's summit isn't directly visible from EBC, the sheer scale and raw energy of the surroundings are overwhelming. After soaking in this extraordinary atmosphere and capturing unforgettable memories, you'll retrace your steps back to Gorakshep for your overnight stay, carrying with you the profound experience of standing at Everest's doorstep.
Today is the day you'll witness Everest in its most glorious form, from the legendary viewpoint of Kala Patthar. Your morning begins before dawn, as you set out from Gorakshep into the crisp, cold air. This challenging ascent to Kala Patthar (5,640 m) is a testament to your endurance, but every step is propelled by the anticipation of the spectacle awaiting you at the summit.
As you reach the top, the first rays of the sun paint the eastern sky, slowly illuminating the colossal peaks around you. You'll be treated to a truly unparalleled, up-close panorama of Mount Everest (8,848.86 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), and the magnificent Cho Oyu (8,201 m) – its towering summit now fully visible – flanked by Nuptse (7,861 m) and Lhotse (8,516 m). Below, the vast expanse of the Khumbu Icefall spreads out like a frozen river, a raw and powerful testament to glacial force. This is a truly iconic moment, a culmination of your journey to Everest's highest accessible viewpoint.
After soaking in this unforgettable sunrise and capturing indelible memories, you'll begin your descent back to Gorakshep for a well-deserved breakfast. Following your meal, you'll commence the trek to Pheriche (4,276 m). This segment of the journey primarily involves a significant descent, allowing your body to recover from the extreme altitude. You'll descend through the rocky moraine fields, eventually rejoining the main Khumbu Valley trail. Pheriche is a larger settlement with a high-altitude research aid post, offering a more comfortable overnight stay after your high-altitude endeavors.
Today offers a restorative descent, guiding you from the high valley of Pheriche into the progressively greener and more hospitable landscapes of the lower Khumbu. This segment of your journey provides a welcome relief after your demanding high-altitude endeavors, allowing your body to recover while still immersing you in the stunning scenery.
Departing from Pheriche, the trail gently loses elevation, following the main Khumbu Valley route. You'll observe the stark, barren terrain gradually give way to more abundant alpine shrubs and eventually patches of hardy trees, signaling your return to more comfortable altitudes. You'll pass through or near traditional Sherpa villages like Pangboche, where you can admire its ancient monastery, and continue towards the vicinity of Deboche and the iconic Tengboche Monastery.
Your path winds through serene forests, offering picturesque views of Ama Dablam and Thamserku along the way. You'll ultimately arrive at Kyangjuma (3,600 m), a charming cluster of lodges nestled on a ridge. Kyangjuma is renowned for its panoramic views, offering a spectacular vantage point for the surrounding peaks and valleys. Here, you'll find a well-deserved rest, enjoying the warmer air and the bustling energy as you rejoin a more frequented part of the trail.
You’ll leisurely arrive at Namche (4.5 km; 1.5 hrs), and muster across the Nepali flats on familiar terrain to Lukla.
Your incredible Cho La Pass and Everest Base Camp Trek adventure concludes today. You'll take an early morning scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, offering a final aerial glimpse of the majestic Himalayas you've just traversed. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure for souvenir shopping, further exploration of the city's vibrant streets, or simply relaxing after your epic trek.
Depending upon your exit plans, with the most probable being your return flight back home, your guide or a representative will accompany you to the Tribhuvan International Airport.
